| CDW to sell Oracle Unbreakable Linux support |

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is extending the Red Hat battlefield to the channel with an extension to Oracle's longstanding alliance with IT reseller CDW.
Oracle announced this week that it had entered into a multiyear agreement with CDW to sell support for Oracle Unbreakable Linux. Although Oracle distributes Unbreakable Linux, company officials say it is not a Linux distributor. Instead, Oracle focuses on offering support and, as Ellison said at the closing speech of OracleWorld in San Francisco, delivering numerous bug-fixes for RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux).
So, from Oracle's viewpoint, Oracle Unbreakable Linux is a program that provides enterprises with industry-leading global support for Linux. Unbreakable Linux, however, is no longer simply a RHEL clone.
What CDW brings to the table, both Oracle and CDW officials say, will be the ability to leverage its successful e-commerce Web site and technical resources to expand the reach of Oracle's Linux support offering. Thus, CDW's Unbreakable Linux customers will benefit from comprehensive, enterprise-quality Linux support while enabling reduced IT infrastructure costs.
The Oracle PartnerNetwork channel is a global business network of 19,500 companies who deliver software solutions based on Oracle software. CDW is the first major Oracle partner to join in Oracle's Linux efforts.
CDW has long experience with selling Linux in the channel. The company already sells the full range of Novell’s and Red Hat's business Linux offerings for both the server and the desktop. In addition, the reseller also sells numerous corporate Linux programs such as CA's BrightStor ARCserve Backup Client Agent for Linux, Acronis True Image Server for Linux, and SlickEdit 2007 for Linux.
"CDW provides software solutions that embrace all environments, including Linux. CDW and Oracle have developed a successful relationship over many years, and offering the Oracle Unbreakable Linux support program through us is the logical next step in serving the diverse needs of our customers," said Matthew A. Troka, CDW's vice president of product and partner management, in a statement. "With the Oracle Unbreakable Linux support program, CDW can help customers consolidate their purchasing operations to achieve faster time to market."
